Two former Premier League stars have different views on City and Liverpool's chances of winning
2022-03-19 15:37LIVERPOOL -- Former English football star Paul Merson believes Manchester City need not worry about Liverpool's success in reducing the distance to just one point on the standings. Liverpool are one point away from City at the top of the standings after beating Arsenal 2-0 in the English Premier League continued on Thursday (17/3/2022) early morning WIB.
Merson assesses Guardiola's team can maintain the top position until the end of the season. So that City does not need to care about Liverpool's results which continue to follow.
"Liverpool have to win every game, so for me this situation hasn't changed. If City win every game and draw Liverpool, they can win the league. The opportunity is still in the hands of Manchester City," Merson told the Liverpool Echo website .
He favored City because of an amazing performance. The Citizens won 14 games in a row over the last four seasons.
"Everyone is celebrating tonight's win, it's a big win. But Liverpool have to remember that they have to chase one of the best teams in world football right now," Merson said.
But a different view is seen by Liverpool legend, Graeme Souness. He highlighted Manchester City's draw with Crystal Palace as opening the door for Liverpool to overtake them. So the chance for both teams to win the title is still very open.
"Manchester City opened the door for Liverpool, City hoped Liverpool could slip away from Arsenal, but they were wrong," Souness said.
According to him, this could be a momentum for Liverpool to overtake City. Moreover, the two teams will meet in April and become the most anticipated match this season.
"City could start to doubt themselves. They have a great group of players and it is time for these players to fight at this important moment," said Souness.
