Tottenham Hotspur reportedly planning to replace Hugo Lloris by signing Brentford goalkeeper David Raya this summer..

The Telegraph reported on Tuesday that Tottenham Hotspur is planning to sign Brentford's Spain international goalkeeper David Raya during this summer's transfer window, and let the team's former World Cup winning France international goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris leave the club.

According to the report, in view of Spurs' recent worsening defensive performances, chairman Daniel Levy has planned to reinforce the goalkeeper position, and David Raya has become the club's first choice of signings. At the same time, the report also stated that in order to improve this problem, Levy has even planned to let Lloris, who will be out of contract after the end of this season, leave the club as a free agent.

This news was later confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, Sky Sports' renowned Italian transfer journalist.

Romano added that Tottenham Hotspur are ready to submit an offer of at least £30m to Brentford to sign Raya.

However, Romano also said that the premise must be that Tottenham's new head coach and new director of football agree with this approach before the club will formally submit an offer to Brentford.

At the same time, Romano also said that Raya is only one of the names in Levy's transfer plans, but at this stage, it is still unknown who the other two are.

In fact, the transfer rumours have caused a series of chain reactions. Recently, many British and German media have reported that Brentford has started approaching Freiburg's Netherlands international goalkeeper Mark Flekken in order to prepare for Raya's departure.

According to related reports, Brentford has activated the €13 million release clause in Flekken's contract, and the two parties are currently discussing personal terms.

About David Raya

The 27-year-old Raya was born on September 15, 1995 in the Catalan Autonomous Region of Barcelona, Spain, with a height of 1.83 meters. Raya joined the Cornelia youth academy since he was a child, and then joined the Blackburn Rovers youth academy after receiving a scholarship in 2012.

Raya completed his Blackburn Rovers first-team debut in April 2015, and became the Rovers first-team's main goalkeeper two years later. He even helped the club to be promoted return to the EFL Championship as a runner-up.

In July 2019, Raya moved to Brentford for £4 million. After joining the Bees, he performed steadily and made huge progress. In 2021, he successfully helped the club win the promotion play-offs of the EFL Championship and earned promotion to the Premier League for the first time in the club's history.

With such a good performance, Raya was pursued by Arsenal in July of the same year, but later with the arrival of England international star Aaron Ramsdale, his transfer news died down.

So far this season, Raya has played 36 times for Brentford in all competitions, conceded 46 times and kept 11 clean sheets.

About Hugo Lloris

The 36-year-old Lloris was born in Nice, France on Boxing Day on December 26, 1986. He is 1.88 meters tall. His younger brother Gautier is also a professional football player, who is currently playing for Le Havre as a defender. Lloris joined the Nice youth academy since he was a child, and completed his first-team debut at the end of October 2005.

With outstanding performances, Lloris moved to Lyon in July 2008 for €8.5 million.

During his 4-year spell with Lyon, although Lloris only led the team to win 1 Coupe de France and 1 Trophée des Champions, he still became one of the best goalkeepers in European football with his outstanding performances.

On the deadline day of the summer transfer window in August 2012, Lloris joined Tottenham Hotspur for €15 million euros.

After joining Tottenham, Lloris reached 1 Carabao Cup final and 1 Champions League final with the club, but in recent years, his performances has become increasingly inconsistent and has been criticized by many fans, media and pundits.

So far this season, Lloris has played 31 times for Spurs in all competitions, conceded 45 goals and kept 9 clean sheets.

About Mark Flekken

Flekken, 29, was born on June 13, 1993 in Kerkrade, the Netherlands, with a height of 1.95 meters. Flekken played for his hometown club, Roda JC's youth academy when he was a child, and later moved to the Alemania Aachen youth academy in the summer of 2009, and completed his Aachen first-team debut at the end of January 2013.

With Aachen running into financial problems, Flekken moved to Greuther Fürth the following year.

In July 2016, Flekken joined Duisburg as a free agent after his contract expired. Just one month after joining, he bizarrely scored the only goal in his career for the club.

In July 2018, Flekken moved to Freiburg for €2 million.

So far this season, Flekken has played 42 times for the Bundesliga side in all competitions, conceded 54 times and kept 17 clean sheets.
