Thomas Tuchel Praises Kevin De Bruyne's Quality
2022-01-17 16:38LONDON - Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has praised Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne. Chelsea suffered a defeat when they visited Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, Saturday (15/1) night WIB.
"Kevin De Bruyne's individual qualities make the difference," the German said as quoted by Football London on Sunday (16/1).
Tuchel said his team struggled to attack City to endanger. He targets to score the first goal to bring doubts to the City camp.
However, City were able to score first through Kevin De Bruyne's feet in the 69th minute and maintain their advantage until the game was over. Thanks to that victory, City are now further ahead of Chelsea at the top of the standings.
Tuchel admitted the lack of individual performances of the Blues players was a weakness in this match. "I think we lost on individual performances and individual performances were important today," said Tuchel.
In addition, Tuchel alluded to the failure of his men to maximize opportunities throughout the match. In fact, according to him, Cesar Azpilicueta et al have been able to rise from the moment conceded first.
"We were active, always aggressive and compact in defence. In the first half, we had great counter-attacking opportunities and attacking opportunities that we really squandered," said Tuchel.
"Second half, the reaction after the goal was very good. In terms of ball possession, we were also very good. We had chances to equalize," continued Tuchel.
Despite this defeat, Tuchel still praised the cohesiveness of his team's defense. He considers Chelsea only conceded one point thanks to a slick defense.
"In terms of attitude, commitment, in terms of defense, I'm happy because we didn't allow too many big changes, we held them back as much as possible, made them as little dangerous as possible," said Tuchel.
City has now collected 56 points from 18 wins, two draws and two defeats. The Citizens are 13 points ahead of Chelsea in second and 14 points ahead of Liverpool in third. However, Liverpool have two more games left in hand.
