TA: Sporting Lisbon coach Amorim ruled out by Chelsea

TA chief correspondent David Ornstein confirmed on Monday that Ruben Amorim had withdrawn from the race to manage Chelsea.

The 38-year-old Ruben Amorim is currently serving as the coach of Sporting Lisbon and has also been known in football for his outstanding coaching performance in recent years. Since taking charge of Lisbon coach in March 2023, Amorim has led his team to win the Portuguese Super Cup, the Super Cup, and the League Cup twice, with a total of 104 wins, 22 draws, and 29 losses.

David Ornstein revealed that Chelsea's pursuit of Amorim began after the dismissal of Tuchel in September last year, and it was brought up again recently. They believe that Amorim "has an upward trend in coaching record and has established a good reputation in the game."

However, Amorim once again declined Chelsea's offer. The Portuguese says he is very happy at Sporting Lisbon and has no intention of leaving the team.

Ornstein continued to say that the selection of the Blues' new coach will be led by its sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Lawrence Stewart, with the final decision being made by chairman Todd Boehly and co-owner Bedard Egbaly. The process is now in its second half, and the initial shortlist of five to 10 candidates has been whittled down to a few options.
