Robertson set to make third generation of Australia squad

Manchester City midfielder Alex Robertson looks set to follow his father and grandfather in representing Australia after being called up for two friendlies against Ecuador later this month .

The talented 19- year-old, who was born in Scotland while his father was playing for Dundee but grew up on the waterfront in the Sydney suburb of Maroubra, has represented England at age-group level.

Also a midfielder, Father Mark made one appearance for Australia in a friendly against Japan in 2001 , while grandfather Alex wore the green and gold jersey in a series of exhibition games in 1984 .

Robertson, who has yet to play for City's first team, also qualified for Scotland by birth and Peru through his mother, but has stated his allegiance to Australia .

" When I called him and told him I wanted to pick him in the squad for these Ecuadorian games, it was straight ' Arnie, I can't wait ' , " coach Graham-Arnold told local media.

" I believe the kid is allied with Australia by now and I'm pretty sure you only play for one country once he puts on the Australia shirt and feels the logo in his heart. "

Robertson was in friendly matches in Sydney on March 24 and Melbourne four days later .

One of four players not featured in Australia's first home game since a successful World Cup campaign in Qatar.
