Porto completes contract extension with former Spain U21s international center forward Toni Martínez..





Porto announced on its official website on Wednesday that the club has extended the contract of former Spain U21s international center forward Toni Martínez.


According to Porto's official statement, Martínez has signed on a new long-term four-year deal with the club which will run until the summer of 2027.


After completing his contract renewal procedures, Martínez, who was interviewed by Porto's official website again said: "I am very happy, today is like a special day for me, as if this is the first time I have come to Porto.."


"I heard our president say something about the way he loves Porto after working all these years at this club and conveys that story to everyone, including me, and the feeling is mutual, I promise to continue to give everything for the club until my last day here.


"I'm more nervous now than I was when I first arrived because of the relationship I've developed with the chairman, with the entourage, with the staff, with my colleagues, and today is a very special day because I've been able to work with the I've always had a stronger relationship with the club that I've always loved, and I want to make this a place where I can live out my dreams, I also want to continue to be here for many years to come, and I'm very happy."


"I'm happy with the way the season has gone, but now we have to keep going and not stop and be complacent forever. We want more and as the chairman said, the goal going forward is to win the next game. Starting now, every game for us is one final after another and we will fight hard until the end. The 25-year-old Martínez is born on June 30, 1997 in Barrio de Progreso, Spain. He is 1.8 meters tall and plays as a center forward.


Martínez joined the Real Murcia youth academy since he was a child, and then moved to the Valencia youth academy in 2013, and began to represent the Valencia reserve team in early December 2013.


After making a name for himself in the Valencia reserve team, Martínez joined West Ham United for £2.4 million in July 2016.


However, after joining the Hammers, Martínez agreed to play for Oxford United, Real Valladolid and Rayo Majadahonda successively on-loan due to the lack of opportunities to play. During this time, he won the Segunda Second Division promotion playoffs with Real Valladolid.


After his contract expired in the summer of 2019, Martínez joined Famalicao as a free agent.


In his only year with the Famalicao, Martínez successfully made a big breakthrough, helping the club to finish sixth, and became one of the most watched center forwards in European football at that time.


In October 2020, Martínez moved to Porto for €3 million.


Since joining, Martínez has won 1 Portuguese Primeira Liga, 1 Portuguese Cup and 2 Portuguese Super Cups with Dragões. So far this season, Martínez has played 41 times for Porto in all competitions, scoring 11 goals and assisting 6 times, and won the Portuguese League Cup with the team.
