Netherlands international right-back wonderkid Lutsharel Geertruida quashes transfer speculation by extending his contract with Feyenoord..
2023-03-19 14:00Feyenoord announced on their official website on Saturday that the club has extended the contract of Netherlands international right-back wonderkid Lutsharel Geertruida.
According to Feyenoord's official statement, Geertruida, whose contract was originally scheduled to expire next summer, has signed on a new one-year deal with the club, and his new contract will now run until the summer of 2025.
After completing his contract renewal procedures, Geertruida, who was interviewed by Feyenoord's official website again said: "Everyone knows that Feyenoord is the club I represent."
"The extension will not only be good for me, but also for Feyenoord. I feel that I have not fulfilled my mission here, especially because my great wish is to achieve great things at Feyenoord. Last season,it was already special that we're being able to gett to the Conference League final, this year it was even better and I got better as a footballer."
"I believe there are many good things to come for the club and for me. I am now part of the Netherlands national team, which is an extra recognition of my strength and that I am on the right track. As a boy from the south of Rotterdam, I couldn't be more proud to be part of the Oranje (nickname for the Netherlands national team)."
With this contract renewal, all the rumours which linked Geertruida with a transfer to Borussia Dortmund will now be quashed.
Last December, Germany's Bild published an article that the Bundesliga giants is planning to sign Geertruida during this summer's transfer window to replace their Belgium international player Thomas Meunier.
Geertruida, who is only 22 years old, was born in the south of Rotterdam, the Netherlands on July 18, 2000. He is 1.85 meters tall and primarily playss as a right-back, but he can also be deployed as a center-back or as a defensive midfielder. He has dual nationality of the Netherlands and Curacao.
Geertruida played for the youth academy of Sparta Rotterdam when he was a child. He was released in 2012 because of his thin body frame and thn moved to the youth academy of their local fierce rivals Feyenoord.
Geertruida made his first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in a KNVB Cup match in October 2017. Since then, he has become better and better, as well as being made one of the players highlighted on Disney's paid video streaming platform Disney+ Hotstar's That One Word: Feyenoord documentary which was produced during the 2020/21 season.
Since his debut, Geertruida has won 1 KNVB Cup and 1 Johan Cruyff Shield (Netherlands Super Cup) with the club, and was even selected into the UEFA Europa Conference League Team of the Year last season.
