Nagelsmann Becomes a Strong Candidate for Mourinho's Replacement at Spurs
2021-03-04 08:40 LONDON - The bad results that continue to be experienced by Tottenham Hotspurs are increasingly shaking the chair of coach that is currently occupied by Jose Mourinho. RB Leipzig coach, Julian Nagelsmann, is said to be a strong candidate to replace the coach who once called himself The Special One.
The Lilywhites' 1-2 defeat in a London derby against West Ham United last weekend was the fourth of their last five domestic league games.
"We have problems in the team that I cannot solve on my own as a coach," Mourinho has argued about the performance of his team during this bad period.
Mourinho added: "The results are a consequence of various situations in football. My methods and my coaching staff are second to none in the world."
Comments like that, however, don't seem at all to have the effect Mourinho wanted. Thus, if the trend of defeats keeps repeating itself, it seems almost certain that Mourinho will soon be sacked.
Citing a report from the Telegraph, Tottenham officials have reportedly identified Julian Nagelsman as their main target to replace Mourinho.
RB Leipzig manager Nagelsmann has long been respected in his home country, having impressed at Red Bull Arena and with Hoffenheim.
The German coach is also only 33 years old, which means he will of course add a new aura of youth and passion to the Spurs bench. Significantly, it is also suggested that Nagelsmann himself will be open to the idea of moving to the British capital.
