Moyes thanks West Ham for stability, says club sack manager too quickly

West Ham United boss David Moyes says he is grateful to have a chairman who " didn't bow down " and opened the door to him when the London club's poor results this season ended.

When Tottenham Hotspur's interim manager Christian Strini was sacked last week, it was a total of 13 managers who had been sacked since the start of the Premier League season.

Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton are on their third managers, with Leeds United set to sack their second manager of the season, Javi Gracia, according to British media reports.

West Ham and Nottingham Forest are the only clubs in the bottom half of the table to have faith in whoever is at the helm to start the season.

Moyes believes top teams have become too moody, sacking managers at the first sign of trouble, and debates whether that is in the club's long-term interests.

" It's a big part of the game because managers are losing their jobs a lot faster now, " Moyes told reporters on Tuesday when asked about the Premier League revolving door.

" If you're going to keep chopping and changing, I'm not sure that's the right thing for a football club because you want continuity, stability and growth.

" Maybe the club has too much money at the moment and they have the ability to change direction all the time. "

Several bottom clubs have "interim managers", namely Dean Smith of Leicester City and Ruben Sellers of bottom club Southampton. In the higher rankings, Chelsea and Tottenham have muddied under Frank Lampard and Ryan Mason, while the permanent manager is targeted.

" I don't think I remember the Premier League having so many interim managers in different roles and different changes, " said Moyes, who is in his second spell at West Ham.

" It's not for me to watch, but maybe a lot of clubs might look back at it and think, ' Did we make the right decision? '"

Some West Ham fans called for Moyes to be sacked in January after they lost six of their seven league games and dropped them into the relegation zone.

But Moyes has proven to be a solid man at the helm, with West Ham currently in 15th place , four points clear of third-last Nottingham Forest with a game in hand .

They also reached the Europa League semi-finals.

Moyes said: " I've been really lucky in my career to have had really good chairmen and great people who don't give in when the call comes .

Few gave West Ham the chance to avoid defeat to Manchester City on their way to eight consecutive league victories and a treble of Premier League , Champions League and FA Cup.

Moyes added: " We've been to the Etihad a lot and it's been hard to win but I must say we've given them some really good games. "
