Mourinho unsure of Roma future after Europa League defeat

Roma coach Jose Mourinho says he is unsure of his future at the club after Wednesday's 4-1 penalty shoot-out win over Sevilla in the Europa League final .

The defeat meant Roma failed to qualify for next season's Champions League and raised questions about whether the 60- year-old would remain in the Italian capital given his links with Paris Saint-Germain.

" I have to fight for these lads, so it cannot be objectively said that I will stay, " Mourinho told Sky Sport Italia.

" In December last year , when I got this approach from the Portuguese national team, I spoke to the club.

" I haven't had any contact with anyone else since then. I have one year left on my contract and that's how it is. "

It was Mourinho's first defeat in a European final, but he said he was proud of his side's performance and admitted the season had taken its toll.

" We were physically exhausted, mentally exhausted and felt dead because we felt it was an unjust defeat with many debatable incidents.

" We were exhausted but proud. I always say you can lose a football game but never with your dignity or professionalism . …

" I lost this but this time I'm more proud than ever. The lads have given everything this season. "

Mourinho also criticized referee Anthony Taylor, adding that the Englishman had been shown too many yellow cards.

" It was an intense, masculine, energetic game and the referee seemed to be Spanish. Yellow, yellow, yellow all the way, " he said.

" We're used to the referee's influence on our game, it's nothing new, but I didn't expect it to be in a European final, " he later added to DAZN .
