More mature at Anfield, Diogo Jota signs a long-term contract with Liverpool

Diogo Jota stays at Anfield until at least 2027.

LIVERPOOL -- Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has confirmed his future commitment to the Reds by signing a contract extension. The new deal means the 25-year-old will be at Anfield until at least 2027.

Jota has been quite a prolific player for the Reds, having scored 34 goals in 85 appearances since joining from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer of 2020. Jota is following in the footsteps of team-mate Mohamed Salah, who has also signed a new contract.

Only Sadio Mane then decided to leave Liverpool and join Bayern Munich.

"I have to say, I'm very proud. Obviously, since I arrived here two years ago, I developed myself as an important player in this team. That's what I wanted from the start," said Jota, quoted from Sky Sports , Wednesday (3 / 3) 8/2022).

According to the Portugal international, signing a new contract proves that the club has great faith in him as a player. Meanwhile, for him, this is a very good opportunity to continue to grow.

Jota did not participate in Liverpool's pre-season tour as well as last weekend's Community Shield against Manchester City. He suffered a hamstring injury while on duty for Portugal in June.

The injury kept him out for several weeks. He is also almost certain not to feature in this weekend's 2022/23 Premier League opener against Fulham.
