Long-serving Egypt international defensive midfielder Mohamed Elneny completes contract extension with Arsenal..

Arsenal announced on the official website on Tuesday that the club has completed the contract extension with Egypt international defensive midfielder Mohamed Elneny.

According to Arsenal's official statement, Elneny has signed a new short-term one-and-a-half-year deal with the club which will expire in the summer of 2024.

After completing his contract renewal procedures, Elneny, who was interviewed by Arsenal's official website again said: "I am very happy, I like this club and our fans very much, and I will do my very best to help the team every day while I'm playing here.”

"I am very proud to be able to play for this fantastic club since 2016. The morale and unity of our squad is so positive right now and I am very happy to renew my contract with the club."

The 30-year-old Elneny was born on July 11, 1992 in El Mahalla, Egypt, he is 1.79 meters tall and plays as a defensive midfielder. Elneny joined the youth academy of local side Al-Ahly since he was a young and then moved to the youth academy of Egyptian giants Al-Mokawloon in 2008, where he became teammates with Liverpool star Mohamed Salah.

Elneny and Salah began to complete their first-team debut at the end of August 2010, and the two quickly became key players of the first-team.

In January 2013, Elneny joined Basel on a loan with an obligation to buy basis, joining hands with Salah again, who had moved to the club a year ago. During his loan spell, the two teamed up to help Basel win the Swiss Super League, and also began to get famous with their superb performances in the Champions League.

In July of the same year, Elneny's ownership was officially bought out by Basel. After becoming an official member of the club, Elneny won three more Swiss Super League championships with the club during the two and a half years he played there.

In January 2016, Elneny joined Arsenal for £7.4 million and became the first Egyptian player in the Gunners' club history. Despite facing numerous competitions and challenges at the Emirates Stadium, and even being loaned-out to Beşiktaş during the 2019/20 season, Elneny still dedicated himself to delivering good performances whenever being entrusted by the club, but it is a pity that the Egypt international has been unable to get rid of the fate of being plagued by injuries since joining Arsenal.

Elneny, who is still out due to a knee injury, has played 155 times for the Premier League leaders in all competitions since joining Arsenal, scoring 6 goals and assisting 10 times, and won the FA Cup once and English Community Shield twice with the club.
