Henry's dream is to play international football, playing for a top-six team in the Premier League

Brentford FC left-back Rico Henry recalls being devastated as a child after trying out for various clubs and being told he was too short to be a footballer. Yet he has always believed in his ability, as shorter left-backs like Jordi Alba, Marcelo and Ashley Cole have shown that height isn't the only factor in being a great footballer.

Although Henry was rejected by clubs such as Aston Villa, Birmingham and West Brom, he was not discouraged by this, but worked harder. He thinks he needs to learn from these experiences and gradually become more aggressive and confident. Ultimately, Henry became one of the best left-backs in the Premier League, alongside his team-mate Ethan Pinnock and Leicester City's Jamie Vardy as later risers.

Henry also said that his development path is not smooth, but he is very satisfied with the decision to play in the lower leagues. He believes that this is the right way to become a professional player. Henry was grateful for the opportunity given to him by then-manager Dean Smith while playing for Walsall FC. He was very nervous and excited at the time, and in the end he did well and became part of the first team.

In 2016, Henry joined Brentford Football Club, thinking it was just a springboard club, but he soon found out he was wrong. Brentford Football Club has grown from strength to strength after welcoming Thomas Frank as manager. In 2021, they successfully promoted to the Premier League and have maintained good results this season. They are currently ranked ninth in the Premier League and have the opportunity to participate in European competitions.

Henry was disappointed that he did not make it to the last national team. He said that with Luke Shaw and Ben Chiwell ahead of him, it would be difficult to be selected. In a way, it hurt because he thought he could play at that level. However, he has to focus on Brentford and continue to do what he can.

"One of my big dreams is to play international football. It's always been my dream to play in a top six team in the Premier League. I'm not at that level yet. I want to play European competitions, I want to play in championships."
