Faiz beats illness, ready to fight for SEA Games berth

For a footballer who turned 20 just four days ago, Faiz Amir Roonizal must have had some heartbreaking adventures.

The Under -23 international revealed he suffered a heart attack early last year without his knowledge.

The centre-back from Selangor II is uninjured and continues to play for his club as well as the Malaysia Under -19 and Under- 23 teams.

" I discovered my heart problem when I had a health check in early 2022 , " he said.

" But I kept playing and it didn't destroy my spirit as a footballer. "

Faiz admitted he hid the incident from the public because he wanted to keep playing.

He eventually underwent heart surgery in June after the AFC Under-23 Championship ended last year .

" I continued to play in the SEA Games, the AFC Cup and the AFC U-23 Championship. After the games, I finished the procedure and kept silent so that I could play for my country, " he said.

" Now, Alhamdulillah , the doctor has given me to continue playing. I can now focus on training and playing without any worries. "

In good shape, can't wait to play

Faiz, who serves as a central defender, is currently in good form and can't wait to play in the Cambodia SEA Games.

" I'm healthy right now and have played seven games in the preseason, " he said.

Faiz was one of 25 players selected to undergo a six-day training camp at the FAM headquarters in Kelana Jaya before the final line-up will be selected for the biennial sports meet from April 29 to May 15 .

He said the boys have adapted well to the ways of E. Elavarasan and believes he has what it takes to break into the team.

" A lot of new faces, we were given new ideas.

" We're adapting to the way the coach is and we'll catch up very quickly, " Faiz said.

" I want to get this position again, I want to show the coach and the Malaysians what I can do. "
