Croatia international Dejan Lovren announces retirement from national team
2023-02-24 08:31Dejan Lovren announced his retirement from the national team on his social media account and will no longer play for Croatia.
Lovren wrote: "Dear national team, dear fans, I would like to tell you a piece of sad news, but trust me, it was a decision made after careful consideration. It was difficult for me, I'm trying not to cry as I write this, but you guys know me well and I'm someone who doesn't hide my emotions."
"The day has come when I have to say goodbye to the Croatian national team, although I still consider myself a loyal supporter of Croatia and will always cheer for the Croatian national team."
"When I was a kid, I dreamed of going to the big tournaments in a shirt with checkers on it. I wore that plaid shirt for the first time when I was 9 years old, and I'll never forget that special feeling, like I was wearing Like Superman's cape, I feel powerful, confident, and fearless."
"I want to tell all young football players that you should look at the Croatian national team differently and support them from the perspective of superheroes."
"I want to thank all the coaches I've worked with, I've learned a lot from each of you. I thank all of my teammates, past and present, for making this journey a wonderful and memorable one. We've been through it together. Ups and downs, in my most difficult times, you are all by my side, thank you very much.”
"Thank you to all the staff behind the scenes. I can't name you in order, but I know who you are. You are the core of the national team. You don't get much attention, but I believe that without you, we have nothing. no."
Now 33, Lovren has played 78 times for Croatia in the past, scoring 5 goals. In October 2009, Lovren made his debut for the national team at the age of 9. Lovren's last game for the national team was a 0-3 loss to Argentina in the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar .
