Chelsea is a great example of how to deal with a player's pregnancy
2023-03-09 13:01Chelsea midfielder Melanie Leports has lavished praise on her club after she provided support during her pregnancy, including hiring specialists for training.
Women's Premier League players will receive maternity insurance as part of an agreement between the FA and the Professional Footballers' Association, which will come into effect for the 2022-23 season.
The deal did not come into effect when Lepoulz announced her pregnancy in early 2022 , but the Germany international is grateful for the support she has received from Chelsea and her coach, Emma Hayes.
" Chelsea did a lot more than they had to and that's why I'm really grateful, " Leports told Sky Sports.
" Emma Hayes has a child of her own and she knows what's important.
" We talk every fortnight about my training program, what I've been doing in Germany and after birth, and how I'm going to get my strength back and my fitness back.
" Other clubs should look up to chelsea as an idol and ask how we did it because in my experience they are fantastic. "
Chelsea have offered her a contract extension
The 28 -year-old signed a contract extension in January, which the player says has given her peace of mind that Chelsea had offered her a few months ago while she recovers in Germany .
" When you look on the internet, there's no information about athletes getting pregnant, giving birth and coming back, so it's really difficult ... but they immediately offered a contract, " she said.
Leipolds, who has made four appearances for Chelsea since giving birth in October, is aiming to represent Germany at this year's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand .
