Cameroon international forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting on the verge of completing contract extension with Bayern Munich..

Sky Sports Germany's renowned resident Bayern Munich team correspondent Florian Plettenberg broke the news on Wednesday through his official Twitter account that Bayern Munich is about to extend the contract of experienced Cameroon international forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.

According to Plettenberg, Choupo-Moting has reached a verbal agreement with Bayern, and he will sign a new one-year short-term deal with the club which will expire in the summer of 2024, without an option for a further year. However, the player's wages will be significantly increased.

Plettenberg also added that in fact, in the past few weeks, many Europe Big 5 Leagues' major clubs have contacted Choupo-Moting's agent and expressed their interest in signing Cameroonian. But Choupo-Moting has always insisted that he hopes to stay with the club.

Choupo-Moting, who is about to turn 34 year-old at the end of the month, is born in Hamburg, Germany on March 29, 1989. He is 1.91 meters tall and has dual citizenship of Germany and Cameroon. He primarily plays as a center forward, but he can also be deployed as a left-winger or a support striker.

Choupo-Moting played for the St. Pauli youth academy when he was young, and only got the opportunity to join hometown club Hamburg's youth academy in 2004. Choupo-Moting completed his Hamburg first-team debut in August 2007, and was later loaned-out to Nürnberg after lack of opportunities to play.

In the summer of 2011, Choupo-Moting transferred to Mainz 05. Under the guidance of renowed head coach, Thomas Tuchel, Choupo-Moting performed exceptionally well, and even helped Die Nullfünfer gained qualification to the Europa League.

After his contract expired in the summer of 2014, Choupo-Moting joined Schalke 04 on a free transfer. During his three-year spell with Die Königsblauen, Choupo-Moting led Schalke to European compeitions qualification for 3 consecutive seasons as a key player.

In August 2017, Choupo-Moting joined Stoke City a free transfer. However, due to the poor performances of his teammates, after the club suffered relegation from the Premier League, Choupo-Moting was labeled "Flop of the Year" by the British media.

After Stoke City's relegation, Choupo-Moting reunited with Tuchel again after activating his release clause by joining Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer during the deadline day of the following year's summer transfer window. However, his move was still labelled as "Undeserved" by the media at the time.

Perhaps he has had enough of the media's online bullying for a while, Choupo-Moting who was given the role of a super-sub at the latter period of his two-year spell with Les Parisiens scored consistently and helped Paris Saint-Germain win 2 Ligue 1, 1 Coupe de France and 1 Coupe de la Ligue.

In October 2020, Choupo-Moting returned to Germany and joined Bayern Munich on a free transfer, during which he won 2 Bundesliga, 2 DFL-Supercup and 1 FIFA Club World Cup with the club.

Since joining Die Roten, Choupo-Moting has always scored a goal when Polish super-striker Robert Lewandowski was absent, and played in his super-sub role really well. After Senegal international player Sadio Mané was seriously injured earlier in this season, Choupo-Moting took a even more important responsibilties to help the club in attack.

So far this season, Choupo-Moting has played 24 times in all competitons for the Bundesliga defending champions, scoring 15 goals and assisting 4 times.
